The Webbcraft Minecraft Server and The Mushroom Co. Survival are celebrating their second anniversary this week! It's been 2 years since the server began and look at how far we have come :D
The story of Webbcraft is an interesting one, and probally too long to fit here, so I'll just say that Webbcraft was a great server I used to play on 2 years ago. On the 7th of April 2012 Webbcraft was started by tyran68 who called it that because his last name was Webb. I discovered the server and really enjoyed playing on it, it was a small bukkit survival server with Factions and ChestShop and only 10 slots. In May or June I invited my friends Lizard_Rag and boomboomtnt to the server and we made a faction together and built an underground base. After a few months and some stuff happening; the server went down on the 10th of October never to go online again. Apparently the owner forgot to pay his bill and by the time he got another server up and running a month later it was too late; Webbcraft was lost, as everyone had only ever known the old IP.
I had also ran my own private server called The Mushroom Co. Survival which began on the 10th of April 2012. I made it with the purpose of discovering a mushroom biome with my friends and we found one after about 5 hours of searching over 2 days. I put the server up regularly in the following months as we developed a nice village on the mushroom island.
When Webbcraft went down on the 10th of October 2012, I decided to open my private server to the public in an attempt to recreate what Webbcraft had been for me; so others could continue to experience it. On the 9th of December 2012 I bought a hosted 24/7 server as previously my private server had only been hosted from my home computer. The map was also reset and new buildings were built such as a grand shop, pvp arena, spawn and a parkour course; we also got the old website run by webs.com.
On the 26th of December the server hit 20/20 players, a record amount. As 2012 became 2013, the server was full quite a bit and would crash often so I decided to get an upgrade. The IP I had also been using was expiring and so I decided to get a better new host. The slot limit was upgraded to 30 slots on the 10th of March after a transition period of 3 days over to the new IP.
On the 28th of March the server hit 30/30 slots and the server was in great shape for it's first anniversary. However, the 1st anniversary celebrations were cancelled due to unfortunate circumstances and a sour April fools prank.
During the next few months the server gained many features such as the Survival Games plugin, Votifier and in July 2013 I bought the domain webbcraft.co.uk to be used for this website. Throughout July, August and early September everyone was slowly transitioned over to the new hostname IP mc.webbcraft.co.uk, however the old IP worked up until the 11th of September when the host decided to discontinue my server's location and change the IP, however I decided to move back to my old host that was still in the UK. Nevertheless, the IP changed and the map was also reset on the 11th of September 2013 to the current map and the slot limit was upgraded to 40.
When Minecraft version 1.7 was released on the 26th of October, the server updated to vanilla because there were no bukkit builds available for 1.7 yet. Many new players joined as it was one of the few updated servers out there, I had to update the slot limit to 50, 60, the finally 80 as we hit an all-time record of 78/80 players! In November bukkit updated and the server was doing great over Christmas and the new year, and still is!
Happy 2nd Anniversary
