So, for the past 5 years, this server has been on the default difficulty: 1, otherwise known as easy. After learning that the difficulty doesn't affect mob spawn rates and higher difficulties won't generate more entities to lag the server, I think it's about time we upped the difficulty to something more challenging.A lot of people have expressed their desire to have the difficulty increased, so I have created the following poll below for whether the difficulty should be set to normal or hard, or remain at easy. In the mean time, I have set the difficulty to normal. Please also submit a comment below if you vote. |

Those who don't know what the difficulty setting changes: It only changes the difficulty of the mobs not the actual mob cap, such as increasing the mob health and damage. You don't need to worry about the amount of mobs that spawn because difficulty doesn't effect that.For more information http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Difficulty |

The hunger bar can deplete and will leave the player with 5 hearts (10 HP) if it drains completely. Cave spiders cannot poison players on Easy difficulty, and the Wither won't cause the wither effect, although wither skeletons will. Lightning only sets the struck block on fire, not surrounding blocks. Normal: Hostile mobs spawn, and will deal standard damage. The hunger bar can deplete and will leave the player with half a heart (1 HP) if it drains completely. Hard: Hostile mobs spawn, and deal greater damage than on Normal difficulty. The hunger bar can deplete and the player will starve to death if it drains completely. Zombies can break through wooden doors and can spawn reinforcements when attacked. Spiders can spawn with status effects. |
