Meh. We need the military. I don't have much of an opinion on it, but I do think that the military is more important than space travel. |

How come? Currently in my opinion the US military is utterly useless, there are no ongoing wars, nor will there be any wars in the foreseeable future where such massive military might would be needed. Currently, the US could defeat Russia singlehandedly with ease, or invade and annex the middle east many times over. So currently the US spends billions on guns that will most likely never be used, and you say that's better spending than using that money on advancing the human race? |

I agree with armz, not saying the military budget should be totally cut. But as the man in the video said, the USA has 10 aircraft carriers just by itself, the rest of the world also have 10, smaller ones too. That's way too much of an overkill. If at least 250-300 billion of the 600 billion was given to NASA, science would skyrocket in terms of advancement. Plus, with science as advanced as that, new technology could be discovered that might lead to even better military tanks for example. |

ISIS and other terrorist groups are still operational, and there will always be more of them. And the fact that Russia is constantly threatening to nuke us every time we do something that they don't agree with. I want a decent military if Russia decides to find out what the big, red button does. Also, not having any wars currently being fought is not a reason to pull all the funding off the military because what happens when someone declares war on the US? While I agree that NASA should be given a much larger budget- and yes, even at the detriment of the military- I think it should be at least split 50/50. |

I do doubt that all those tanks and helicopters will do much against nukes. If russia will really nuke the US, they will start with places that have military bases, they're not stupid. |

You do realise that if Russia nukes the US we are all pretty much dead, so whats the point of a big military if the people they were protecting have all died? Also, ISIS is a small gang of poorly trained fanatic militias, any country in the world could defend against them. Tanks and aircraft carriers won't protect against terrorist attacks. |

Ok, forget what I said, and think of it this way: What happens when we get rid of all our tanks, aircraft carriers, helicopters, guns, etc, and someone decides they want to go to war with us?We die. |

A more realistic solution is scrapping half of the equipment while putting 1/4th of the equipment into storage. Decrease military spending by 75%. Nuclear warheads alone would be a big enough scare factor to stop hostile nations from launching a land invasion. A big navy could be built instead of focusing on land forces. |
