Does the Internet (or games) help with depression? It may be fun to play games, but It rarely goes that way, with toxic 12 year olds calling you a noob when you're doing really well because they killed you once. Honestly, those things drive me mad when I'm generally having a bad day. Watching funny vids might help - I wish that funny videos were the only things on the internet. There are a lot of vids that could get you triggered (looking at you Trump). What are your thoughts on it? |

I think that doing something you enjoy is what will help bring you out of depression. Whether it is gaming or jogging... anything that entertains your brain and distracts you, will help.
Listening to sad music that describe your emotions help a lot. despite what some may say, listening to songs about your depression / sadness helps (eg from a break up) because it subconsciously reassures you that you are not alone in what you are feeling.
While playing games is not the healthiest option, and is certainly unhealthy in the long run, it can help distract you from the pain cause. Watching funny videos are an extremely short-term help from my experience, because as soon as the video ends my mind isn't distracted anymore..
UNLESS of course it is the Internet which has caused your depression. If an Internet relationship is ended or you're being bullied on the game you play - turning it off and going out for a jog, adventure, or really anything that is the opposite of what caused your pain will help.
Personally I find that when I'm feeling low, it's good for me to go to work, splash my money on myself and buy myself something I've wanted for ages... clean my bedroom, go out for a bike ride... I do these things and I find they help a lot.
But it won't help everyone, what I do is the opposite of what I usually do, which is working, gaming, money saving, dieting and working out. Lately I have let go of that lifestyle (I game a lot less but i still work) because of my personal reasons - and it has helped me a lot with those reasons.
What will help you is entirely customised to your daily life... will gaming / the Internet help? Yes, but it depends on your lifestyle before you became depressed. |

Whenever I'm feeling down, I just do something random that I wanted to do for some time, watching youtube crap, working maths, (maths helps as I'm good at it and like it), draw something (even though I can't draw shit), I also love puttting on some badass music while pwning scrubs on a game, just do the thing that comes to your mind, irrespective of what it is, within reasonable boundaries of course. |
