The Eastern Roman Empire also shrunk in size, but one Emperor, Justinian the great (482 - 565) managed to reconquer large areas lost to the germanic tribes, but the Roman Empire eventually crumbeled a while after his death, with the Roman Empire being completely wiped out when the turks conquered Constantinople in 1453.
