5th Anniversary

Yesterday the server celebrated its 5th anniversary! 5 years! That seems like a really long time, half a decade. A lot of things have changed in that time, but a lot of things have also remained the same. It's amazing that this server has lasted for this long, for which we can thank the continued support of all our players and staff. To celebrate the occasion, like every year I will be releasing some statistics about the server. I had meant to post this yesterday but unfortunately I couldn't get the statistics ready in time.

As some of you probably already know, a few months ago we surpassed 100,000 total unique players who have ever joined the server, and for the record, the 100,000th player to join was starlord_1002. He was on the server for less than 5 minutes. The 100001st player, makkopolis, stayed a bit longer and has played for a total of 47.25 hours. The next noteworthy player after him was IlluminatedBlu, at 100,008th, who has played for a total of 200.67 hours.

This year, the statistics will focus on the most active players of all time, and the players who used to play on the server so long ago and are still active.

A few weeks ago in the news article for the forums 3rd anniversary, I asked for suggestions on what statistics I should present this year. Jordan suggested that I compile a list of the top players who have been on the server the longest and are still active (have been on the server in the last 2 months). This is what I found:

Below is the data for the top 100 most active players on the server of all time (10th of April 2012 until 9th of April 2017). In March 2016, I implemented a way to track players online more recently, which could give an actual amount of time that a player was online. While it was possible to do this before with the server logs, it was much more difficult because of unreliability arising from server crashes and lost logs. Instead, for the time before March 2016, I counted the amount of commands executed by a player and then attempted to extrapolate the hour values for 2016 based on the amount of commands executed during that time (finding commands per hour for 2016, then dividing commands data before 2016 to get hours). The skew value shows how much the value for that player deviated from the average: a high positive value indicates a low amount of commands with higher ingame time, and a negative value indicates a higher amount of commands with less ingame time. Thus it could also be used to reflect a percentage of time the player is perceived as afk.
