Hello everyone, my in-game username is Gorvilauk, but today I am forced to use Lexi as a conduit to put my message out there.
I have never really been interest in a staff position on this server, but as of late I have felt that I have stood idle for too long while members of staff were left to their own devices when it comes to governing the server. They have been allowed to determine the measure of a punishment based on predicated social interactions between a group or individual. Which allows a perhaps unconscious bias to seep into their judgement. Of course such a thing is only natural, we are all humans after all. But a person in a position of authority must execute their responsibilities with the least amount of personal emotion being introduced into the mix.
It is clear with any who have eyes to see that the staff do not posses a unified stance on the rules they are tasked with enforcing, leaving us - the community, being subjected to the discretion of an individual who often times resorts to the quick and easy method of punishment that is banning for a period of time that is entirely decided by how long the staff conducting the punishment feels is appropriate. Completely ignoring our jail, and reducing the size of our community. I believe this extreme application of guide-less punishments should immediately be stopped in favour of a more measured and curated response, fashioned from the efforts of the entire staff team.
My goal as a moderator would be to see such a reform through, making changes to the way we deal with individuals that cause problems should serve to further enlarge our community and perhaps bring back users who have abandoned us due to the current, or previous staff's misjudgments and overtly extreme punishments.
I would also seek out the possibility of reviewing and perhaps allowing the return currently banned individuals as I believe it emboldens us to have more people in the community, rather than allowing them to form their own servers and take our membership elsewhere. I believe this agenda is a noble one, and in the long term would improve the relationship between community member and staff.
I recognize that this format is not the normally expected one, and that perhaps many people would disagree with my statements but to be honest, I donated to this server and I do not want to see us lose membership because of people getting banned for stupid or unreasonable things. There are other methods of punishment that doesn't see rival servers popping up out of the ashes of dispute.
TL;DR I want to make changes to the way disciplinary action is handled, among other things.
