Xray season has opened up, and this year there is no limit. Staff often notice a player mining precious resources at an alarming rate. With this info, the player is suspicious and needs to be investigated. At this point, the player is not yet banned. Staff notice erratic twists, turns, and dead ends in the tunnels. They check the block data and learn the dead ends and corners were once ore veins. BOOM! Banned! A lot of people can do this by coincidence, or with hacks. Either way, they shouldn't mine this way. My suggestion is to add "Do not mine erratically" to the rule board. This rule would prevent false bans. If they WERE xraying but nobody believed it, the ban reason would change from "xray hacking" to "breaking rule 23: no erratic mining." |

This would be a very stupid rule to try and enforce in my opinion. Restricting how people mine is just asking for players to get angry. When someone is banned for xray there is a lot more to consider than just erratic tunnels. A suspicion is brought to staff and it is often confirmed by multiple staff members. Just because a player cries on the forums and claims they're innocent does not make them innocent. Xray bans that I am online to witness are carefully discussed and checked on multiple different factors before they are deemed as cheating. So I present to you: Pheo's guide on how to catch an xray. Hobbleswarth edition. Too qualify for the prestigious xray title you must match all the following: Most diamonds in a chunk mined, missing very few as they went along. Random tunnels following no pattern that always lead straight to diamond. Random erratic tunnels are great, just not when they go straight to diamond 100% of the time. Poorly lit or pitch black tunnels high diamond:stone ratio, tbc. Little to no other minerals mined along the way. Mining from diamond to diamond consistently with occasional detours. and now for: Maths with Pheo ft. Hobbs A minecraft chunk is 16/16/256. That's 65,536 blocks per chunk We can say that 50% of the blocks are mineable. So 32,768 blocks On average there are 3.097 diamonds ores per chunk That's one diamond ore every 10,580 blocks, so 1/10580 From y14 to y11 there are a lot less blocks but not proportionately less diamonds. Because of that we can say the percentage of you finding a diamonds straight up is 0.000091552734375%. On average, for (Y14 and below) an acceptable/generous ratio is 0.0297(+/-0.015) this means that they are mining 2-3 diamond ores per stack and a half of stone. Hobbleswarth incredibly manages a good old 0.07 meaning he was doubling what an average player can mine. This is what would have lead him to being investigated, not his tunnels. The fact that his tunnels went from diamond to diamond only confirmed our suspicions. Staff don't ban people without reason, I wouldn't normally share what the process but I think it was important other players got an insight into what happens when we think someone is xraying. Love from, Pheo |

There is a formula one can follow to estimate the coordinates another diamond vein. If one calculates fast enough, they may be able to mine vein to vein with an increased diamond to stone ratio. The patterns of their tunnels are enough evidence to lead to a ban for xray, and they'd have no proof they never xrayed, because every stat says otherwise. If they weren't allowed to mine erratically, they wouldn't look like an xrayer. |

There is also a way to make false tunnels, and that can confuse staff. Ex. Make a bunch of tunnels leading nowhere and some to diamonds. This may confuse staff and make them look less like an Xrayer and more like a person looking randomly.+1 for this rule |

-1 for the rule Even though i just mine in a straight line I feel like this is restricting the freedom of the player and how he wants to play (without cheating) we could do something like the catching hacker videos on YouTube. We try and bait the possible x rayer with blocks of diamonds. The admin can study the path of possible x rayer and place the blocks way form that path. The admin should also do that couple of more times to make sure that the possible x rayer just accidentally found the blocks |

I saw vids like that, but the youtuber always has WorldEdit, a plugin that causes server lag, even when not in use. |

Pyrrhus, when I was admin that was one of the main ways a caught X-rayers, not sure if they still do it now but I would assume so |
