/thru is a useful command included with the plugin WorldEdit, and probably other plugins. It lets you pass through walls by typing /thru or by right clicking with a certain item (I think the default item is a stick).
The command is useful for getting into people's houses to explore without having to break their walls and repair them.
Donators/Builders/VIP's already get some similar commands like /top and /jump so it wouldn't be a big change. /top and /jump are like weaker versions of the /thru command. |

I believe /jump just teleports you to what block you're looking at. I don't think it lets you go through walls. /thru lets you go through walls. |

We don't have WorldEdit on the server because it is very dangerous and has been abused in the past.
However /jump can sometimes work for passing through 1-block walls or doors. If you stand right up against a door (or possibly a wall) and do /jump it can sometimes teleport you to the other side. |

I believe there is also a plugin that lets you control exactly who can use what commands even if they are part of the same plugin.
For example with the permissions plugin you could let donators use /thru but restrict the rest of the WorldEdit commands to admin or op or owner if you're worried about that.
You could also use a permissions plugin to grant /co i to donators like we were talking about in that other thread without granting donators /co rollback.
I'm pretty sure we had a plugin like this on my old server but I forget the name of it. I just remember editing the permissions.yml file a lot. Maybe it's built into Bukkit?
Food for thought :-) |

We do have a permissions plugin, but the problem with WorldEdit is that it is the ops and admins who abuse it.
Even I have a few times, not on purpose of course. For example, say I set positions 1 & 2 somewhere to perform a legitimate action with worldedit, but I teleport away and after a while set position 2 in a different place. If I forget to set position 1 again, or accidentally set position 2 twice though thought I set position 1, when I try and execute a command on the selected region (that I think is legitimate) it will still use the old pos1 from the old selection I made in a different area. This can cause the selected region to sometimes be 3000-4000 blocks or more across, and WorldEdit will attempt to perform the action over this region, ultimately crashing the server and also possibly causing chunk corruption for that region.
This is why I don't leave Worldedit on the server for extended periods of time because ops and admins (including me) then become reliant on it and over time are prone to make fatal mistakes. |
