Redesign the voting / token system.

Since i've joined the server almost 2 years ago, i have voted. a lot. and not once have i received a vote token.
Yet these days we have defaults which have voted on 3 links and get 2 vote tokens (yes apparently this actually happened).

As vote tokens are supposed to show dedication to the server,i don't think the system is a true representation of this.

As this is a suggestion and not a complaint, i'll give my resolution to my complaint half:
Instead of having vote tokens given out at random, have them given out when players reach certain milestones. for example, voting 50 times will get you a token, another 50 (totalling 100) will get you another token.

I just feel like the system isn't particularly fair. and it seems majorly floored as vote tokens are worth about 2$ IRL.

+1 I completely agree. It also encourages people to vote more which will help keep the server up on the lists and maintain an online presence.

10 was just an arbitrary number, I just meant that we give the top voters of the month some sort of guaranteed reward so that there is still an aspect of randomness but you don't get screwed over if you show dedication by voting daily.

Well you've been very unlucky, I looked through the vote records and out of the 119 times you've voted since vote tokens were introduced, you've never received one, which has a probability of 7.48%. Hmmm, maybe it isn't so unlucky after all, I thought the probability would be lower than that, especially for such a high number of votes. Of course this isn't even taking into account if you might have been offline for some of the votes and couldn't receive a token at all.

Maybe there should be a donate token. Donate $2 = get a GMC item. But you'd only be able to get them bimonthly (so people don't complain about it being pay to win.

Abstain, this is a hard one, the randomness of it keeps a lot of us voting, though I also understand after voting so many times you do feel you deserve one for all the voting you have put in. If it comes down to number of votes it should be high like at least a months worth of voting minimum.

Strongly disagree that you can buy a token. A lot of children play on this server, a lot of them don't have access to money and it becomes quit unfair just because you have access to real cash and others don't. Yeah you can buy vip and donator but even with those you don't get items, you get commands. You still have to vote etc to gain a token just like everybody else. Voting is the important part as it keeps the server up in the ranks to get noticed and bring in new players.

Michael is very close with his numbers. At a 4.25% chance of getting a vote token, it should take 23.5294 votes to get a token. Each person can vote 4 times a day. It should take 5.8823 days to get a vote token. A token every 25 votes sounds VERY reasonable to me.

thats not how it works presinus. probabilities dont add up together, they are random.

also belg, you can't purchase a vote token. i was saying that vote tokens are worth roughly 2$ each as they work the same way that donations do.
*edit* i thought you were replying to me, sorry.

I think your maths is still out Presinus. I could be wrong but thought it worked this way, every single vote is treated individually not multiplied together or stored for future reference to gaining a vote token. So with every single vote you have a 4.25% chance and no memory is kept by the computer. So every time u vote u have that small chance but like many you could vote 140 times and still not be lucky enough to get that 4.25% chance for that individual vote. I'm starting to confuse myself. Clear as mud.

Actually belg, you are completely right.
Youve got yer math wrong pres. The probabilities dont stack. Theres a 4.25 chance to get one on any given day. This does not mean you have an 8.5 chance to get it in 2 days.
Image Perso
Presinus
Date sent: 2017/07/23 15:47:43
The odds of getting a vote token on your 1st try is super low, okay? The odds of getting one on your 25th try is much higher. Even though the chance stays at 4.25, the odds change. Like rolling dice. Any further explanation required?

Presinus is right, the probabilities do stack even though previous results aren't stored and the probability per day never changes.

Say the probability of getting a vote token after 1 try is P.
Then the probability of not getting a vote token after 1 try is 1-P.
The probability of not getting a vote token after n tries is (1-P)^n
The probability of getting at least one vote token after n tries is 1-(1-P)^n

since P is a number between 0 and 1, as n -> infinity, probability -> 1.

However if we put Presinus's numbers into the formula, we get the probability of getting at least one vote token after 23.5294 votes is 1-(1-0.0425)^23.5294 = 0.64, or 64%.

Thank you for explaining it to everyone, but I don't quite understand where that last part came from.

At 64% chance of getting a vote token, on average you should get one ever 2nd time. Percent = per hundred 2 tries at 64% chance = 64x2=128. 128 is higher than 100, so most people would have a token by the 2nd vote at that rate.

I input the probability for each try as P=0.0425 (4.25%) which is what you said initially. The 64% chance is the probability of getting at least one token out of 23.5294 votes, when the chance of getting one token out of one vote is 4.25%.

Chip, since it's random, the probability tends towards but never reaches 100% the more votes you do. Someone very unlucky could vote a thousand times and still never receive a vote token (<0.001% chance of happening). Similarly someone could vote ten times and receive a vote token every time (<0.001% chance of happening).

I think the vote tokens should have this implemented but also keep the randomness as well, so if you don't get one on random you will get one eventually no matter what. This also gives the chance of getting more tokens, thus making people want to vote even more. but having more ways of getting the tokens makes them less valuable, and if the tokens were rewarded every x amount of votes then they would likely turn into less valuable rewards; instead of the random factor making them really valuable and a really good reward for getting one on chance.

according to the law of large numbers, as you vote more and more, the ratio between times you get a vote token to times you dont should approach 4.25:100. This means that as long as you keep voting over and over again, the probability should work out and you should get around 4 tokens every 100 votes.
