So I keep getting "an error occurred while sending this message" when trying to post a comment on Luigi's news post. So here's my thoughts.

My place outside of the world border, but not too far outside of it. And I didn't "abuse" anything to get there. I walked. (I found it before "fly" was even allowed.)

If you want to create a border to save space and stop TP-abuse, then fine, but don't penalize me because other people have been a--holes please.

I've said repeatedly that I have a large build that will benefit the server. (Frankly I think that's understating it, but too much hype is probably a bad thing. Risks disappointment.)

I know there are people who've build structures over 70,000 blocks away from spawn - I've seen them. I can understand having a problem with that. Don't punish me for them.

And Luigi, feel free to come by and take a look at some of my plans if you want to see just why I think the thing I'm working on will be such a big deal. I'll also show you how far out it goes (further than 10,000 blocks, but not a huge distance away either).

10/10 humbley bumbley. I like exploring the world by running around huge distances. So yeah.

I suggest the world border be set at 30,000-50,000. 10,000 just seems too short for an expanding server like ours.

To answer Luigi's question in the simplest way possible - my build is entirely within 20,000 blocks of spawn. So that'd be good for me. If that's not ok, I'd be happy to show you what I'm doing and what the farthest point is.

Blueroon and wowman, 250k or 500k is way too much. It should definitely be less than 50k. 20k seems reasonable enough.

I am so far away from spawn I probably wouldn`t have a chunk left if you made the world border 20K/25K

How can I check where my house is?

In simplest terms, the equation you need looks like this:

Distance from 0, 0 = [square root of (x^2 + z^2)].

If you have no idea what that meant, just follow these instructions. It takes a calculator. Assuming that spawn is at 0, 0 (or as close to it as makes no practical difference), here's what you need to do to find out how far away your house is from it:

1) Press "F3" (works on Mac and PC) to get up your MC status overlay. Part of that overlay is your X, Y and Z coordinates.

2) Go to your build and find the X and Z coordinates that are furthest away from "zero". Basically you're looking for the point of your build that's furthest away from 0, 0.

3) Note down the X and Z coordinates of that point. ("Y" is immaterial.)

4) If either of your "X" and "Z" coordinates is negative then change it to a positive number. So a coordinate of -16,000 would become just 16,000.

5) Find the square of both the X and Z coordinates. (Multiply each number by itself.) So for example, if your house was at (X=16,000, Z=20,000) you'd need to do (16,000 * 16,000) and (20,000 * 20,000). Which would be 256,000,000 and 400,000,000.

6) Add the squares of your X and Z coordinates together. In my example it would be 400,000,000 plus 256,000,000 which would be 656,000,000.

7) Finally, find the square root of this number - if you're not sure how to do this, you're looking for this symbol on your calculator: http://www.mathatube.com/glo-square-root.html.

That number you just got is the exact distance you are, in blocks, from coordinates 0, 0.

(In my example, by the way, it was 25,612 blocks, which gives you an idea of what kind of a distance you're looking for relative to your coordinates. At any rate you're looking for a number that'll be larger than your X and Z coordinates.)

Or here's an easier way to get an approximate distance.

Your distance from (0, 0) will never be more than 1.42 times whichever of your X or Z coordinates is larger - it's mathematically impossible. Again, if a coordinate is negative, just change it to a positive one.

So if your positive coordinates are x=20,000, z=16,000, you know you can't possibly be more than (1.42 * 20,000) blocks away from (0, 0), which is 28,400 blocks.

Lemme put it another way... your city is less than four thousand blocks away from spawn. And it seems like the minimum border will be twenty thousand blocks away.

You got nothing to worry about!
